The Australian Physiotherapy Council has responsibility for the process of assessment of overseas qualified physiotherapists for two purposes: 1. for professional recognition for registration to practise as a physiotherapist in Australia and 2. for recognition as a physiotherapist for migration purposes.

Only physiotherapists who:

  • who hold an accredited entry-level qualification in physiotherapy completed at a university in Australia, and/or
  • who hold a current certificate of full registration (practising certificate) with any State/Territory Physiotherapists' Registration Board in Australia or the New Zealand Physiotherapists' Board

are not required to undertake the professional examinations in physiotherapy and can apply for assessment for migration purposes and should read information available HERE.

The Australian Physiotherapy Council assessment process for overseas qualified physiotherapists who are required to complete the professional examinations in physiotherapy has three stages:

  1. Eligibility Assessment
  2. Written Examination
  3. Clinical Examination

Further information for overseas qualified physiotherapists who are required to complete the professional examinations is available via this website or by downloading the information handbook.

A fee is payable in advance for each stage of the assessment process. Click here for the current schedule of assessment fees.
