English Language Requirement
A comprehensive knowledge of English is essential to practise physiotherapy in Australia and all applicantions for assessment of eligibility for the professional examinations must satisfy the English Language requirement.
- Applicants who provide evidence that their initial physiotherapy professional education was in the English language medium in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States of America satisfy the English Language requirement.
- Applicants who completed their primary and secondary education in the English language medium in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States of America and completed their physiotherapy education in a different country and who provide a certified copy of their High School Certificate and a certified copy of evidence that their primary and secondary education was completed in the English language medium satisfy the English Language requirement.
- Applicants who provide a certified copy of a satisfactory and valid result from one of the English language tests listed below satisfy the English Language requirement. IELTS and OET tests results are only valid for a period of two years from the test date.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
For IELTS tests a minimum score of Band 7 in each of the four components must be achieved in the Academic Module. Detailed information including locations, contact details and dates for IELTS examinations in Australia and overseas is available at www.ielts.org
Occupational English Test (OET):
A result at A or B level in all four sections of the test in one sitting is required.

THE AUSTRALIAN PHYSIOTHERAPY COUNCIL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REQUIRE EVIDENCE OF A SATISFACTORY AND VALID RESULT FROM ONE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTS LISTED ABOVE.
